The old Pisa slaughterhouse and nearby stables have been converted into a place where scientific cultural tourism, research and entrerprises share the same space.
The Cittadella Galileiana (Galileo Citadel), the new name of the complex, is situated near the tourist attractions of the city center and will also host high-tech companies in a startup incubator, hence the name dedicated to Galileo Galilei, born in Pisa in 1564.
This renovation represents an important strategic development for the city of Pisa. The original pork-butchery has been transformed into a space where the incubated startups will have their offices in rooms placed parallel all along the perimeter of the main building.
A three-level construction entirely made of glass has been built in the center. The first two floors of the glass structure will host the general management offices and shared meeting rooms. The upper level, an open space, will be organized as a relaxation area and library.
Another building has been renovated to host the game room and the Galileo museum. All glass panels, railings and stairs are made of laminated safety glass containing TARROT metal fabric. The copper color of this fabric matches perfectly with the terracotta color of the roof and the old steel structural parts of the interiors.
